Brilliant post--and interestingly, (and I promise this is no exaggeration) just this past week was SERIOUSLY daydreaming about joining a convent--even though I'm the opposite of religious. Stone Yard Devotional was not on my list--even though Booker candidates are my favorite titles to read--so thank you for getting it front and center in my mind....I love the idea you offer: "our life is about just waking up as often as we can." That's a beautiful perspective.
Based on your comment, I think you'll REALLY like the book. I think part of why we write is that it gives us that invitation to wake up when we're in the writer's seat. You have to be so present to write.
